A few of us "old-timers" can
remember World War II and the accompanying food rationing, amongst
many other "government" impositions. Looking back, I am glad my father
was a farmer, because our life style, as to eating, hardly changed.
The reason being; we were already producing almost everything we
needed for the kitchen.
It was a different story for our
city cousins. Up until that time, most were eating out of the
grocery store. For these people, our country invented the "Victory
Garden." City people were encouraged and taught how to utilize
existing flower beds, yards or any place they could cultivate a
small patch of soil to plant little gardens. At one time, it was
estimated that 2/3 of the vegetables consumed in the U.S. were grown
in "Victory Gardens."
As a small boy, little did I
realize that 70 years later, I would be advising people to consider
doing "Victory Gardens." I would suggest starting your planning asap,
with emphasis on acquiring proper garden seed ahead of time.
If you are considering buying "off
the rack" seeds, think again. Let me explain why. What you will find
in most stores that sell seeds, are "hybrid," which means that some
company, such as Monsanto, has genetically engineered that
particular plant to bear large, nice looking produce. However, while
this is happening, the food value has diminished. They, also, may
have added other features that are bad for our health. Just one more little
service of the
world planners!
I am going to provide you with
sources to obtain what is called "open-pollinated" garden seed. You
can harvest seeds to plant year after year. Some of these seed trace
their heritage back 200 years! Plus, the food value will exceed any
"hybrid."
One of the handiest and least
expensive is provided by efoodsdirect.com. They pack a supply of 16
different popular vegetables into a sealed, #10 can. It sells for
$35.00
Go to:
http://www.efoodsdirect.com Included in the can of seeds is an
8 page instructions as to their planting, etc. To read a PDF copy of
this ( Click Here ). Another
source is Survivalist Seeds. You can go to their
website by clicking on:

They have available a 7 year supply
of heirloom (open-pollinated) seeds for $118.95.
Another interesting source is an organization called:
Seed Savers. I recommend you visit their website and look around.

Step one to doing your "Victory
Garden" is to get your seeds NOW.
We'll have more on this subject
